Scholarships

Aquila's Economic Development program offers tuition scholarships for continuing education to individuals involved in economic development and chamber of commerce management in its communities.

Economic development is a critical issue in communities served by Aquila. A successful economic development effort is locally based and depends upon strong volunteer involvement - often supported by competent professional staff. Such staff may be employed by a chamber of commerce, economic development corporation, city or county government, regional group or other organizations.

Continuing education is important to professional staffing. Professionalism is developed by attending various local, regional, or state meetings, and from attending courses directed toward economic development and management of volunteer organizations.

Because some budgets cannot support the cost of training, many outstanding people do not obtain the continuing education and contact with others in their field necessary for developing professionalism and a strong implementation program. An often ignored fact is that such continuing education is not an expense; it is an investment in the future.

Aquila wants to help communities we serve make an investment in their staff and volunteers and in the success of their future development efforts. Many of the programs Aquila supports are the first of a series of annual seminars. It is our hope that the participant and community will derive enough benefit from first year participation to support attendance in future years.
